Dr. Hy Bloom, B.A., LL.B., M.D., F.R.C.P.(C)
Hy Bloom, LLB, MD, FRCP(C), is a forensic psychiatrist (and lawyer). He is a founding member of The Psilex Group, Consultants in Behavioural Sciences and the Law, and CEO of workplace.calm,inc., Conflict and Violence Prevention and Management.
He is also a part-time staff member in the Complex Mental Illness/Forensic Services Program at the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health, an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University.
Dr. Bloom is a psychiatric and legal member of both the Ontario and Nunavut Review Boards, as well as a member of the Health Services Appeal Review Board.
Dr. Bloom has lectured extensively and published a number of books, book chapters, articles, and manuals in the field of psychiatry and the law, including Law and Mental Disorder: A Comprehensive and Practical Approach (Eds. Bloom and Schneider, Irwin Law, 2013, https://irwinlaw.com/product/law-and-mental-disorder/), a 60 chapter textbook.
One of his most recent publications is as lead author of a co-written chapter on use of threat and risk assessment tools in lone-actor terrorism (Lone-Actor Terrorism: An Integrated Framework, Holtzer et al., Eds., Oxford University Press, 2022).
Resa Eisen, MSW, RSW
Resa is a Facilitator, Family Conflict Coach, Mediator and Trainer, who has worked in the private and public sectors in the area of family conflict, and how it impacts the lives of family members, at home and in the workplace. Over her 50 years of practice, she has taught generations of practitioners to understand and help families resolve family tension at all points in life. In her practice and her teaching, Resa is committed to helping families become their best communicators and problem-solvers.
Resa has also designed ADR courses throughout her career, including the first Elder Mediation Training Program in Canada. Her model of facilitation/mediation (PRREP™) is widely used in family, workplace, medical, family business and elder mediation. In addition to her mediation practice, she has maintained her clinical practice as a marriage and family therapist. She is a certified member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and holds the designation of Approved Supervisor for both the Ontario and American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
As part of her professional commitment, Resa has been involved with many associations, receiving her Accreditation as Family Mediator from the Ontario Association of Family Mediation (OAFM). She served three terms as a Board Member for the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario (ADRIO) and she is currently the Chair of its Elder Section.
Resa graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with her Master’s Degree in Social Work.
