Dr. Colleton, MD, FRCPC, completed medical training at the University of Alberta in 1997 and psychiatry training, including a final year in forensic psychiatry, at the University of Toronto in 2002.  He holds a Lecturer position in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. In 2013, he obtained sub-specialty qualification in Forensic Psychiatry through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Colleton joined the Complex Mental Illness program in Forensic Services at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in 2002 and remains a consulting member of the medical staff, conducting brief fitness assessments at Brampton Court. He is a consultant psychiatrist at the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre in Brampton and at the Toronto South Detention Centre in Toronto, providing general psychiatric care to individuals detained in those facilities. He regularly conducts mental health diversion assessments for CMHA Peel Branch. Dr. Colleton maintains an active private practice, conducting third-party psycholegal assessments for criminal and civil proceedings; these address issues such as criminal responsibility; fitness to stand trial; risk of violent or sexual re-offence; risk of workplace violence; disability and return to work; long-term psychological effects of trauma; malingering; and professional capacity.
